HOW TO GET BACK TO READING AFTER A LONG TIME

I was going through a group chat and a concerned person Shared this. I found it helpful tho and I’m hoping you might too :-)

Schools are getting reopened and of course, many students are currently experiencing a hard time getting back to reading ways. It can be tough trying to get back to having the desire to read anything and everything. It's how the brain
works. Ever heard that it takes 21 days to adopt a new habit? Well, let's just say the brain gets used to not reading and it takes some sort of rehab to get right back into it. Well let's see how to make the books second nature again, shall we?

#Whyshouldyouread? Do you know why a man being chased with a cutlass suddenly finds out that he can scale the fence he's been trying over years to scale? It is because his brain is  convinced that being slow would be equal to death. It therefore releases all the adrenalin, motivation that makes it possible to carry his legs to not only run fast but to scale the hurdle. Same with reading! Convince your brain to read. Our brains respond to solid, well-crafted arguments. Examples are: your poor mum trying all her best to feed you and send you to school at the same time; the unemployment rate and the dire need to be distinct
from other graduates; the result sheets will be pasted in an open place; your girlfriend knows your portal password etc. whatever rocks your boat! Fill your mind with that reason and let it motivate you to read.

v  Start with what you love to read, I.e the course or the topic you are attracted to (I'm assuming you have one). Read what you love where you love to.

v  Then, dwell on it. Fill your mind with it and let the knowledge you're acquiring interact with your mind. While, you're washing, brushing, having your bath etc., consciously allow your mind to dwell on it.

v  Let the knowledge become real to you. Relate it to practical situations that intrigue you and that you will likely not forget easily.

v  Discuss the topics, questions, discoveries INFORMALLY with an understanding friend. This is you saying "I'm giving myself to this course fully". Your brain notes that and that course becomes priority. Making it informal makes you
relaxed, unpressured.

v  And most importantly, make it steady. Do it consistently at a convenient time. From there, your reading pace increases. You can them move to less interesting courses, and spend more time too reading.
